There are a bunch of new dairy and soy-free products about to hit the market that I'm REALLY excited to try. The two biggies include a new yogurt called Nu Lait.
They have 5 flavors, 4 of which are coconut-based and 1 that is nut-based. The flavor combos sound really interesting. They have a Web site, but it's still under construction. You can read a review by an early taste tester here.
The other product I'm incredibly excited about is a soy-free margarine by Earth Balance. As you probably have already discovered, there really isn't any version of margarine avaliable to soy-free folks. Being able to cook, bake, or simply add a pat of "butter" to a baked potato is going to make life so much better! I know it sounds silly, but it's easy to feel sorry for yourself when you can't butter your toast in the morning.
This soy-free Earth Balance is suppose to hit stores in May, so keep your eyes peeled! I'll be stalking the local Whole Foods until it turns up!
My daughter loves the Earth Balance spread. She has IBS and is allergic to sugar and rice but feels best when she also stays away from dairy and soy. This stuff has been wonderful and allows her to cook without everything tasting like olive oil or to use to bake. Check your local health food stores.
ReplyDeleteI am also soy and daiy-free because my daughter is allergic. I use BestLife Buttery Spread. While it contains Soybean Oil, my doctor said that studies show that most people with soy allergies can safely eat foods containing Soy lecithin, Soy oil, and Soybean oil.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering the same thing. I have read that most people can have those things too and I was wondering if other people have tried this and what the results were. It sure does open up to a lot more things if you can have the soy oil and soy lecithin.
ReplyDeleteMy little guy is 100% dairy and soy intolerant. No soy lecithin, no may contain, no processed in a facility with. This is a fantastic product. Love love love it.
ReplyDeleteoops that was not Adam, that was his wife not checking the computer well.

Im with Katie (Adam)... My son (whom Im currently breastfeeding) is also 100% dairy and soy intolerant. Even ME eating that stuff and breastfeeding him has bad reactions. It was soooo hard not eating ANYTHING containing soy or dairy (I lost 10 lbs the first week) and was OVERJOYED to find the Earths Balance Margarine. Now if they only had the soy/dairy free yogurt at walmart too!
ReplyDeleteI need some advice from other mom's...ped thinks that my son is allergic to soy and dairy--he is presenting no symptoms other than--he had mucus in a few diapers, so i took him and they tested his stool for blood and found blood...I can't see any blood, so it is only trace amounts. i am off all soy and dairy for the next two weeks and then he will get re-tested...if trace blood in his stool is the only symptom...could this be just normal and not really an allergy?
ReplyDeleteHi Rachael,
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have read, heard, these are pretty classic presentation symptoms. My son has the same, he does sometime have traces of blood (which you see only if you are looking) - but mostly mucus. I am still trying to be diary and soy free but must have had some hidden somewhere since the blood came back :(
I'm on a 100% soy/dairy free diet as well. I accidentally ate something that contained soybean oil and my baby was sick for 3 days again. It's hard as I'm also a vegetarian, but it's totally worth it of course. Thank god for Whole Foods, the only place I can find these products!
